Wedding Bells Are Ringing

weddingIt’s really happening! My son is getting married and I couldn’t be happier.  The New Year sure started with a bang.  At the stroke of midnight, Idan went on his knee and proposed to his high school sweetheart, Laura Cristina Ortiz.

Idan and Laura are soul mates who bring out the best in each other. I feel blessed that he chose to have me and Laura’s family present at this very special moment. And I feel even more blessed to soon have a talented and loving daughter-in-law.

And so the year is off to a good start. Soon we all will be in wedding planning mode. So much to do, so much to dream about. Wedding invitations, wedding dresses, wedding venues, and wedding cakes come to mind. For now, however, I want to freeze this happy moment, enjoy seeing the happiness on their faces, and savor this special day.

Touched by an Angel a poem by Maya Angelou

We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.
Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.
We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love’s light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free.

And while their home is Los Angeles, the wedding will take place on January 29, 2017, in New York. Thirteen months seems like a long time, and yet I have the feeling that time will fly. I can’t wait.
